Ski Trip - Day 5 - 11:07pm

Well, we made it two full days of skiing without injuries. Today was a different story. At around 10:45am, the snowmobile came down pulling Andy on the stretcher. He had a fall that sent him to the hospital with a broken collarbone. About 10 minutes after they left for the hospital, Nicki came down with a sprained wrist after colliding with a tree. The weather conditions today seem to be the cause of a lot of falls. We haven’t seen much of the sun. It is freezing which is causing some icy conditions on the slopes. It is quite the opposite of yesterday.

Here’s a couple of stories that added a smile for the day…

Will tried to help Andy by taking his board down the mountain for him after he was hurt, but it didn’t turn out the way that he wanted. Will thought that it would be best to sit on his board and hold Andy’s snowboard as he slid down the mountain. The only problem was that Andy’s snowboard took off out of Will’s hands and was going downhill much faster than he was. Thanks to a friendly skier that happened to be near by, Will ended up getting Andy’s board to the bottom.

Jared decided that he would accomplish a life long dream and build a snowman. Melinda saw this as an opportunity to have some fun and planned on knocking it down. As she was running towards it, Jared yelled, “Stop! I’ve always wanted to do this!” He ended up turning on his own snowman and kicking it down himself, but taking a nice fall as he did it. Afterwards, Jared was tackled by a couple of people nearby which escaladed into a huge snowball fight that had over 20 people getting involved. It wasn’t just a fight, but a war and everyone got into the battle.

Despite the bad weather that we saw on the mountain today, over half the group trekked up to the top of the mountain to take another big group picture. This is one of the most beautiful pictures because of the Sopris Mountain located behind the hill. A couple hours later several students got geared up to take on the terrain park with jumps and rails. With most of the students and adults standing by taking pictures and video, they each went after their mission. Only a couple missed on their attempt; a few of those tacking pretty hilarious falls.

Today had its ups and downs, but with one day left the students are excited to end on a high note, and definitely healthy!

One more day to go…

Ski Trip - Day 4 - 11:55pm

It was an exciting day on the slopes today! We heard tons of good stories of big falls and snowball fights! Here are just a few…..

While skiing down the slopes, Rachel Bailey was seen sliding over 150 feet head first and on her back down the mountain after she tripped.

The Barbieri clan decided to take the girls down a blue today. Laura and Rachel Pate thought it was a little difficult and ended up taking off their skis and went down the mountain sitting down.

Andy had an unfortunate meeting with a tree and Will forgot to move out of the way of a pole, but both came away with nothing more than a bruised ego.

Here is an incident as told by Brittney Bowen:
“We were going down a bumpy hill and there were bumps everywhere. He was coming from the left, I from the right. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw what could be the last thing I ever saw in my life. He said “Waaaa!” and I said “Ahhhh!” And then BOOM! Skis tangled, poles far away and bodies 10 feet in the snow. I could not move. With everybody else down the hill, what were we to do? How could this be happening? After untangling and recovering from a tragic collision, Brandon handed the poles to me and I tried to put my boot back in my ski. There was too much snow. Finally after about 10 minutes we go the ski to pop. We both skied happily ever after.”

All in all it was a very successful day two of skiing as many students went big by challenging themselves on blue and black trails. All of them did a great job and are keeping up their energy while on the slopes, but after that, as you can see in the pictures, they tend to fade quickly.

Till tomorrow’s stories…

Ski Trip - Day 3 - 10:38pm

What a day! We were up bright and early this morning, especially thanks to George! He had called the front desk to get a wake up call for his room and the hotel ended up calling EVERYONE’S room at 6:15am. We got up to Sunlight at about 8:30am. We took a group picture so make sure you check it out! All of our students did great in ski school! They all picked it up really well. By the end of the day all most everyone was about to fall asleep after a long day of skiing. But tonight they were already getting excited about going back out tomorrow.

Remember parents, make sure to check out the pictures and worship archive links to see what all has been going on at the mountain and at the hotel. If you need the password information again, just email John at jrobbins@lbc-dallas.org.

Talk to ya’ll tomorrow…

Ski Trip - Day 2 - 11:01pm

What was the greatest story of the day? Well, I’m glad you asked…

Today, while at the Alpine coaster, Rachel Bailey and Jessica Allen were riding together down the side of the mountain. As they picked up speed Jessica’s hood fell backward causing all her hair to blow furiously in Rachel’s face. Rachel, like the trooper that she is, toughed it out and enjoyed the rest of the ride. However, unknown to Rachel at the time, Jessica had left her a nice gift that wasn’t noticed until dinner. As Abby was starring at Rachel awkwardly, it was soon realized that Jessica had left a piece of her hair stuck in Rachel’s braces. This wouldn’t be too bad, except that it had been there for 3 HOURS. I now can safely report however that both girls have laughed it off and are still talking!

Till tomorrow…

Ski Trip - Day 2 - 9:36pm

Welcome to the blog!

We finally made it to Glenwood Springs after a LONG, almost 23 hour, bus ride. We encountered a blizzard along the way but Gary and Connie did a great job handling the bus and van! We got to our hotel around 11:30 this morning. The students got their lunch and then went to be fit for their skis and boards. They had free time after that were over 20 students took a tram ride up to the top of the mountain to ride the Alpine coaster (video coming soon).

We received a huge compliment from the workers at the Adventure Park about how polite and respectful our students are…but of course, we already knew that!

We left for dinner around 6:15 tonight and returned to have group worship time. We will be getting up bright and early in the morning; breakfast is at 7 am and we will be leaving to pick up our skis and head to the mountain at 7:30am.

Thank you for all of your prayers during our trip up here. Continue to pray for us, as we get ready to head out tomorrow to the slopes.

Goodnight…
